Give me Carbs!

November 8, 2011 - 3 Responses

Hi folks!

I’m takin’ it easy this week as far as my running schedule. With less than a week before my half marathon, I am beginning to carbo-load and I am LOVIN’ it 🙂 My family went to a wine tasting over the weekend and I politely guarded the cheese table…in between wine-runs, mind you.

My mom and I continued the party at home with our own wine n’ cheese board 😉

Next up? Stephen and I ordered a Greek Pizza from one of our favorite local spots – Joe’s Inn ~ a family favorite!

Finally, one of my new favorite creations that my mom recently made ~ Mini S’mores! I recently introduced my mom to Pinterest – a website created to pin your favorite things onto collage boards…a highly addictive site, no kidding. She came across a S’mores recipe that is DEE-licious!

Mom did us proud...these were AMAZING & so easy to make!

So as you can see, I am having no problem getting in my carbs for this Saturday’s run. Take my advice, enjoy a few carbs every now and then! That’s all for now ~ I’m off to decide what my running attire will be for this Saturday…dressed to dish none the less 😉 …because I will be eating as soon as I cross the finish line, seriously!

Sweet November!

November 1, 2011 - Leave a Response

Hope everyone had a safe & spooky Halloween! Leading up to last night’s festivities, I was busy working at The Loft. So I knew my lofty attire had to in some way let customers know I was in the spirit. I opted for black dress pants, a black & white scarf, and orange feather earrings…if I was not at the register or in the dressing room, I could be found eating candy 🙂

Between my low-key Peacock outfit & “Doctor Cush”, we somehow managed to match perfectly. In case you didn’t know, my Peacock attire is only a mere smidgen of how overly obsessed I have become with this gorgeous bird.

On to other news! Happy November!

I can already smell the sweet & southern aromas that will be filling the kitchen this month. That AND the Richmond Magazine ~ Southern Food Guide issue just arrived in our mailbox. Hail Mary bring on the butter & gravy! So as you can imagine, after my nice & relaxing 5 mile run this morning, I was tuned into what southern recipes I could whip up this month.

With less than 12 days til my FIRST Half Marathon – I am more conscious than ever about drinking plenty of fluids & eating a healthy balanced diet. So for lunch I had brown rice, mixed with spinach, tomatoes, & onions. No cookin’ here – I simply popped in my SmartFresh Rice & Veggie bag in the microwave and WALLAH – my lunch was ready in 3 minutes!

Alright friends, have a great Tuesday and Happy November 1st!

Give A Girl A Cupcake

Happy Friday friends!

Yesterday was a milestone in my book. In training for the November half marathon – I ran 10 miles. Honestly all I wanted after running was a giant chocolate smoothie, a huge slice of deep dish pizza, and a cupcake. But seeing as how I am in training – I opted for a Powerade, turkey sandwich, and a CUPCAKE 🙂

Katherine's Spider Cupcakes!

No matter what I will never deprive myself of something ~ or else in a week I will probably be on a downward spiral (As in I bought a tub of ice-cream and finished the entire thing in one sitting) Moderation is everything.

Stephen and I recently took a trip to Carytown Cupcakes. First off how have I never been there before now? The interior of their store is old fashioned and makes you feel like you took a trip down memory lane. What really had me excited? With Stephen not being a big dessert fan, he ordered his OWN Amaretto cupcake.

I was so taken back that we were not sharing a dessert that I was speechless – and SUPER excited to inhale my own…yes inhale my pineapple & banana cupcake. This trip was well worth it – and hopefully will come again soon!

We’re off to meet with a potential photographer this evening for our wedding! I’ll catch ya later!

Have a great weekend and stay dressed to dish!

Kindergartners, Retail Customers, & Wedding Vendors ~ Oh My!

October 25, 2011 - 3 Responses

Phew! Dressed to Dish has needed an update for the past few months…and tonight I finally found time to mill about my blog baby to make some important changes. First off – my address is no longer Thailand, but thankfully the experience and memories can be remembered over the course of my blog. Simply flip back to December 2010 for a glimpse as to what our first month in Thailand entailed. Fast forward 8 months and we are back in good ole’ Virginia. Thankfully there are thousands of pictures, because it all seems like one big, whirlwind of a DREAM!

As many of you know, Stephen and I are in the midst of planning a wedding for 2012 – a date which has been unknown….until NOW 🙂 That’s right, after having lots of friends and family ask about our big day ~ we can finally reply with those 4 little words I’ve been itching to say! WE SET A DATE! October 20th of 2012…I will be a married woman!

So for all of you ‘dressed to dish’ readers, please follow along with me over the course of this next year as I run, eat, drink, dress, and work my way through my last year as a Single Lady ~ Now put your hands up! Beyonce fan anyone?

~In other news ~

~ I was SO excited to see my baby sister last week (legal baby sister, I might add). We finally got the chance to have a night out on the town and enjoy a cocktail together since her recent 21st birthday.

~ We also went a little crazy in Target…the Halloween section to be exact.

~Alongside substitute teaching and pursuing my Master’s degree, I have entered the wonderful world of retail. Now let me just tell you I NEVER thought I would work in retail, despite my shopping history. Something about working those registers and dealing with finicky retail customers had me worried. But after adjusting to the first few weeks of this new part time gig, I have to say I am loving it…that or I’m too consumed with the nice discount that comes as a perk to this job. Either way, I am enjoying my day to day interaction with customers and the fact that I get to help dress someone…it’s kinda A LOT of fun. Just don’t come to me with a gazillion things to exchange or return…I’ll smile and bare it but I’m not a happy camper. In case you’re wondering, I am now a Loft girl.

Ann Taylor Loft has been one of my favorite stores for the last few years…and as their slogan says, “Live, Love, Loft” is constantly on my brain. Okay I digress – but just as a forewarn, my love for loft may decline on Black Friday – after just receiving word our store opens at Midnight (as in I eat my turkey, drink my wine, and am ready to pass out) I will be swiping credit cards…so please be kind to me!

One more reason I love loft?

LOFT LOVES

TEACHERS!

~ So in between my daily run-ins with kindergartners, retail customers, and wedding vendors, I am needless to say on the go. So much so that I am STILL gearing up for my FIRST half marathon on November 12 – it used to be retail therapy that calmed me ~ now running has become my therapy. Needless to say my health and bank account agree with me. Through training, I managed 9 miles this past weekend! How people can simply go out and run 9 or 10 miles like it’s no big deal, I have not a clue. This is honesty for ya – it felt like an ETERNITY. Let me just say that 2 months ago – that was an unimaginable goal for me…like unthinkable! So believe me, if I can do it I know  many of you can too – like for real. I’ll take any runners’ advice you can give – I’m setting out tomorrow to find some new pumped up kicks for myself…seeing as these babies have had a run for their money.

This was a longer post – are you still awake? Bare with me as Dressed to Dish slowly warps back up to speed, I promise more frequent posts to come! Have a great week and stay dressed to dish! 🙂
