Kindergartners, Retail Customers, & Wedding Vendors ~ Oh My!
October 25, 2011

Phew! Dressed to Dish has needed an update for the past few months…and tonight I finally found time to mill about my blog baby to make some important changes. First off – my address is no longer Thailand, but thankfully the experience and memories can be remembered over the course of my blog. Simply flip back to December 2010 for a glimpse as to what our first month in Thailand entailed. Fast forward 8 months and we are back in good ole’ Virginia. Thankfully there are thousands of pictures, because it all seems like one big, whirlwind of a DREAM!

As many of you know, Stephen and I are in the midst of planning a wedding for 2012 – a date which has been unknown….until NOW 🙂 That’s right, after having lots of friends and family ask about our big day ~ we can finally reply with those 4 little words I’ve been itching to say! WE SET A DATE! October 20th of 2012…I will be a married woman!

So for all of you ‘dressed to dish’ readers, please follow along with me over the course of this next year as I run, eat, drink, dress, and work my way through my last year as a Single Lady ~ Now put your hands up! Beyonce fan anyone?

~In other news ~

~ I was SO excited to see my baby sister last week (legal baby sister, I might add). We finally got the chance to have a night out on the town and enjoy a cocktail together since her recent 21st birthday.

~ We also went a little crazy in Target…the Halloween section to be exact.

~Alongside substitute teaching and pursuing my Master’s degree, I have entered the wonderful world of retail. Now let me just tell you I NEVER thought I would work in retail, despite my shopping history. Something about working those registers and dealing with finicky retail customers had me worried. But after adjusting to the first few weeks of this new part time gig, I have to say I am loving it…that or I’m too consumed with the nice discount that comes as a perk to this job. Either way, I am enjoying my day to day interaction with customers and the fact that I get to help dress someone…it’s kinda A LOT of fun. Just don’t come to me with a gazillion things to exchange or return…I’ll smile and bare it but I’m not a happy camper. In case you’re wondering, I am now a Loft girl.

Ann Taylor Loft has been one of my favorite stores for the last few years…and as their slogan says, “Live, Love, Loft” is constantly on my brain. Okay I digress – but just as a forewarn, my love for loft may decline on Black Friday – after just receiving word our store opens at Midnight (as in I eat my turkey, drink my wine, and am ready to pass out) I will be swiping credit cards…so please be kind to me!

One more reason I love loft?

LOFT LOVES

TEACHERS!

~ So in between my daily run-ins with kindergartners, retail customers, and wedding vendors, I am needless to say on the go. So much so that I am STILL gearing up for my FIRST half marathon on November 12 – it used to be retail therapy that calmed me ~ now running has become my therapy. Needless to say my health and bank account agree with me. Through training, I managed 9 miles this past weekend! How people can simply go out and run 9 or 10 miles like it’s no big deal, I have not a clue. This is honesty for ya – it felt like an ETERNITY. Let me just say that 2 months ago – that was an unimaginable goal for me…like unthinkable! So believe me, if I can do it I know  many of you can too – like for real. I’ll take any runners’ advice you can give – I’m setting out tomorrow to find some new pumped up kicks for myself…seeing as these babies have had a run for their money.

This was a longer post – are you still awake? Bare with me as Dressed to Dish slowly warps back up to speed, I promise more frequent posts to come! Have a great week and stay dressed to dish! 🙂

Your Royal Highness
April 30, 2011

By now billions of people across the world have seen the much anticipated wedding of the year! Lucky for us in Thailand, we did not have to get up at the crack of dawn to see the festivities – it was the perfect Friday night special. At school yesterday everyone was buzzing about the details – the hair, the dress, the service, the hats…so much speculation! We had a vote going around on how she’d wear her hair…I was correct in guessing half up half down!

I thought every part of it was gorgeous and breathtaking. Granted when I first saw her long lace sleeves – I was thinking she’s all covered up! But I thought she looked beautiful, elegant and it suited her (now to be) royal duchess in every way. My favorite parts? Kate making her grand debut for the first time in her dress, the carriage ride, the balcony kiss (although both pecks on the lips were entirely too quick for my liking!) and Kate’s reaction to the crowd as she said “Oh wow” overlooking the balcony.

Here’s a recap of our school day, all in preparation for the royal wedding!

It was definitely a royal day at school! Everyone was excited to get home in time to watch the festivities ~ I was starving and felt it royally appropriate to have a cucumber sandwich leading up to the wedding 🙂

I might as well wear a big  festive hat this weekend as I’m still gobbling up all wedding related news 🙂 So what did you think of the wedding?! And most importantly the dress! Have a great weekend ~ stay dressed to dish!

A Friday Fiesta
April 15, 2011

This morning I made a new breakfast combo – I’m callin’ this one my Breakfast Fiesta!

I took a toasted English Muffin and spread both sides with a thin layer of soft ripe avocado. From there, I filled my sandwich with a fried egg, tomato slices, and jalopeno jack cheese. Nothing like a morning fiesta to kick off my day!

After breakfast I worked out for 30 min on the elliptical but after a half hour that just got boring. Truth is I miss running outside but it’s a lil difficult where we live. Believe me I am thankful for the gym we have but I’ve been itching to do something different. Granted we walk everywhere but the little kid inside of me is desperately wanting to go run in all directions. I may have found a solution – turns out there’s a kickboxing place just down the street…perhaps a trip is in my future! But for now, I came back and did a workout from Women’s Health Magazine.

I don’t know about you but I hardly ever do the exercises featured on tear-out cards. I try it once and then I’m done. Not today! I found a routine that involves no weights or equipment – just your own body weight. It was actually a really good workout!

I’m not sure what’s on our dinner menu for tonight – but I am excited for American Idol.

Aside from the singing, I also love tuning in to see what JLO's attire will be!

Too bad I already found out who gets kicked off because I went on the super addictive site we all know and love – FACEBOOK. American Idol airs a day later in Thailand, so from now on I have to remember to not read facebook statuses before my show airs!

This thin mint reminded me of Girl Scout thin mints!

Last night I enjoyed a chocolate thin mint dipped in my hot cocoa. I don’t know what it is with this Thai Holiday, but there’s a holiday rush going through me! In my mind there’s a huge snowstorm in Thailand preventing us from going outside. But in reality it’s 80 degrees and sunny with a splash of water on your head – aka – Songkran – the Thai New Year. So since we’re “stuck inside” I figured a mug of hot chocolate would be perfect for the occasion. Happy Friday friends! Stay dressed to dish! 🙂

Craving Chocolate Lava!
April 7, 2011

The perfect after school treat - in moderation of course 🙂

I fell in love with this Molten Lava Chocolate Cupcake when I first bought it 2 weeks ago from vendors at school. Ever since then I have had a craving for another one. Today I decided to share the love and buy two – one for me and one for Stephen (he was lucky his cupcake made it home if you know what I mean). As soon as you bite into it, ooey gooey chocolate oozes out from the center – hence the “lava” – and heaven in my mouth.

Heaven in my mouth - admit it, you'd cheat on your diet for that 🙂

Last night we made spaghetti & meatballs. In my best italian accent, “These are some-a spicy a-meatballs!” Our meatballs consisted of garlic, onions, red chili, bread crumbs & a bit of water. With a sprinkle of Parmesan on top, our italian meatballs were a success.

Now from one dinner to the next! Tonight’s dinner I decided to whip up some pancakes after American Idol. I was excited for a breakfast dinner since my breakfast usually involves eating something quick on the go. Growing up my sisters and I loved putting sprinkles in our pancakes – crazy colorful and fun! So lucky for me we had sprinkles in our pantry. Stephen opted for chocolate chips, another favorite 🙂

Breakfast is ready! Pancakes & Scrambled Eggs

My black and white attire came together nicely with my new necklace. I bought it from school the other day and could not wait to wear it. Food Vendors I love but the next best thing? We had someone come in to sell jewelry, clothes & accessories on Tuesday…why don’t American schools do this?! Okay but back to the pancakes!

What a beautiful sight 🙂

Oh breakfast how I’ve missed you

Such a nice change to my quick peanut butter toast in the morning! But if I must be completely honest…I’m already looking forward to next week’s chocolate lava cupcake – it’s the little things in life 😉 Needless to say I think I’ve found my weakness in chocolate lava.

I’m curious what’s your food weakness? You know you have one – that food that you lose all willpower to when it confronts you…please share, or at least make me feel a lil better about my food weakness! 🙂
