Magazine Madness!
January 31, 2011

Hi. My name is Rachel and I am a “Magazine-oholic”. Okay yes I look corny as I stand on the top of Big Buddha Hill with my Glamour Magazine…but bear with me as I share details. I took this picture a few weeks ago and hesitated to post it because of the “cornyness” or maybe desperation in my case, that it portrayed. For as long as I can remember, my favorite pastime or guilty pleasure as it may be, has been my obsession for magazines. If I so much as see a glimpse of a magazine section somewhere, I usually have to be pulled away by a friend so I don’t rack up countless dollars towards my almost scary obsession! However, my magazine obsession is now almost a distant memory in Thailand because of the ridiculous import prices. If you’re familiar with magazines, you know that sometimes readers are featured when they travel somewhere interesting with their magazine. SO I marched right up Big Buddha Hill with my Glamour Magazine to hopefully become featured in a future Glamour edition! (Fingers Crossed!)

Will this be my potential BIG-BREAK into the Magazine world after all these years as a dedicated follower?! Probably not. Were people staring at me with crazy eyes for bringing my magazine all the way to the top of the hill?! YES. But it would definitely be a treat to see a tiny thumbnail picture of myself in the table of contents after all these years. If not, then at least I could share it with you! Why lines like, “Eat This and Lose 10 pounds!” or “Wear this and look like a Movie Star” are lines that have me jumping for joy at each new issue, I will never know. In retrospect, I find myself spending countless hours reading back through my blog, as it has become like my online diary I share with the world. Perhaps Dressed to Dish is my new personal magazine (don’t rain on my parade…it’s a thought 🙂 ) that has me smiling at the  sheer thought of that idea…hey a girl can dream!

As for now, I am perfectly happy whenever a package arrives because I know my mom has just sent me another magazine, a small slice of heaven in my case. Thanks Mom! 🙂 Excuse me while I become immersed in a stack of magazines on my floor.

Anyone else have a weakness for MAGAZINES and the juicy gossip they dish?

Mmmm...all I can say about this Fruit Danish!

Saturdays we usually get plenty of walking in, so I had no problem devouring this delectable Fruit Danish at Mokador Cafe this morning. Stephen may not agree, but this has just surpassed my all time favorite breakfast Croissant at Mokador. You do not even realize how excited I was to take the first bite! Made fresh from Mokador’s bakery, this glazed, Fruit Danish tasted like heaven. Our Saturdays have started to consist of lots of window shopping, obviously starting off the day at Mokador Cafe…their bold coffee definitely gets us moving.

Doing what I do best!

Don’t judge me on my attire. When I know ahead of time that we will be outside walking for a majority of the day, my focus is more on the food! Which means comfy clothes are a must, so let’s just say I decided that little flower in my hair made up for my tank and Soffe shorts. Besides let’s face it, by the end of the day when our faces are dripping with sweat  glistening from the sun, I’m not thinking about fashion.

Trinket Shopping!

After a day in the sun, we have resorted to another night in, everything dedicated to cooking, movies, & organizing our kitchen! Gosh I sound like Monica on the tv show Friends…she is a clean freak about her kitchen organization. Well seeing how I basically make up my bed before I even get out in the morning, I guess I have a little bit of “Monica” in me. 🙂 I’m okay with it!

Tomato, Cucumber, & Dragonfruit Salad

Fettuccine, Cheese & Herbs

It was my turn to cook dinner tonight, so I fixed up a colorful fruit salad to go along with MORE PASTA. Yes we resort to pasta a majority of the time because it’s in our budget…creative thinking is a must so we don’t have too many repeats! I used fettuccine noodles mixed in a cheese & herbs sauce (store bought but so good!) adding basil on top. As for my salad, I tossed in the usual tomatoes and cucumbers, but also added dragonfruit to the mix. I welcome any pasta related ideas so please send them my way!

Dressed to Dish!

I know what you must be thinking…what the heck is she wearing?! Since I’ve been in Thailand I see Thai girls everywhere wearing these cotton thai pants. Today I bought some! As Stephen said when he first saw these on me, “Now there’s some authentic thai fashion!” Ha not sure how many times I will wear them out, but they are PERFECT for a cozy night in. These pants were the last in its color…I literally took these off the manaquin. My motto – No Bargain, No Buy! As you can see, I got a bargain.

After a wonderful Saturday I’m ready to call it a night. To check out other aspects of our stay here in Thailand I encourage you to check out Stephen’s blog as well! For those of you back home who are just now waking up, have a wonderful Saturday and stay Dressed to Dish! 🙂

T.G.I.F!
January 28, 2011

After a long week of work, all I can say is Thank Goodness it’s Friday! Don’t get me wrong I absolutely LOVE my job, but Stephen and I definitely cherish our weekends even more now. So after a week full of riding the bus to and from work (with Toy Story 3 playing constantly…& now in my dreams) along with practically running between school buildings to get from class to class, I am excited to spend my Friday night at home tonight. Stephen and I have planned a night full of Pasta, Blogging, and a glass of Merlot to wind down from a long work week. I think these are the nights I love the most – staying in to cook, watch movies – tonight = Social Network, and blog (as it is my new obsession!) 🙂

Sauteed Chicken n' Veggies in Wine

Al dente Macaroni

Final Outcome ~ Delicious!

Our pasta went perfect with a glass of Merlot. Okay I must confess, Stephen took full control over this dish and I have no complaints! It was so yummy and creamy. He used green peppers, onions, garlic cloves, chilis, & chicken to mix in with our macaroni. Along with a little tomato sauce, this dish had us going back for seconds! (Don’t ask about thirds) 🙂 I hope you have a wonderful Friday and stay Dressed to Dish!

Indulge much? Yes please!

Probably not the healthiest of Salads with lots of Cheese and Honey Vinagrette...BUT SO WORTH IT!

Despite my efforts towards being very health conscious, when a scrumptious [Insert High Calorie Food Here] catches my eye…calories are the last thing on my mind! I think I would go crazy if I didn’t enjoy a tasty treat…or 2 or 3 every now and again. Since we’ve been in Thailand, our main mode of transportation has been none other than our feet. We walk everywhere. Whether it be the beach, restaurants, or going to the grocery store, we are definitely getting in our “steps” as some would say 😉 With that being said, I have definitely been indulging in my fair share of yummy appetizers/unhealthy salads/desserts.

Prawn Chips & a Spicy Thai Peanut Sauce

If you know me well, you know my all time favorite snack/food/appetizer is none other than Chips & Salsa. While this may be as close as I come to my favorite snack, it was a delicious appetizer none the less. The margarita seems to be the drink of choice with chips & salsa, but wine definitely tasted better with this spicy thai sauce.

With work becoming one of my major priorities these days, fashion has taken a backseat in terms of shopping. Food not so much…go figure 🙂 That’s not to say I’ve been slacking on the wardrobe choices. I try to plan my outfit the night before…otherwise I would go to work looking like a hot mess that just rolled out of bed. Don’t get me wrong, I love my mornings but when the alarm goes off anytime before 7am, the outfit needs a trial run the night before. I managed to take the outfit above from day to night attire. I love the top not just for its sparkly black strip down the middle, but because it hugs in all the right places. It was perfect to dress up a pair of jeans and worked well with a black skirt for night. Less decisions to make – I like it!

JLO in Versace

After a night out we were excited to come home and watch the new season of American Idol. With not alot of current American tv shows here, I felt like this was a privilege to watch since I have been a fan of the show since it started. It’s very different without Simon, however, besides the great voices (or lack there of) I also like tuning in to see JLO’s fashion choices as well.
